Better-for-You Breakfast Burritos

Breakfast burritos and breakfast tacos will forever hold their spot in the breakfast hall of fame, but if you’re looking for a healthier option to start your mornings, here are 5 better-for-you breakfast burrito recipes.

Depending on your dietary needs and goals, you may be looking for different attributes in your breakfast wraps, so we’ve divided our breakfast burrito recipes into low carb, gluten free, and low calorie options.

Gluten Free

Vegetarian Breakfast Grains Salad Burritos 

With a fast prep time and fresh ingredients, these vegetarian breakfast burritos are a great pre-hike or pre-meeting marathon meal to keep your body energized. 

Each burrito is filled with quinoa, buckwheat, egg whites, and kale - which means they’re packed with protein and fiber and can be great for stabilizing blood sugar. Between these three ingredients, you’ll also get a healthy dose of essential nutrients like vitamins A, B, C, iron, magnesium, calcium, and potassium. 

But the star ingredients in this better-for-you burrito recipe are the feta and blueberry you’ll add to the hearty base for a pop of flavor!

To make: 

  1. Start by heating your quinoa, buckwheat, and kale in a warm skillet. 
  2. Then add egg whites, blueberries, and feta, and stir until combined and warmed through. Remove from heat.
  3. Warm your Gluten Free Original Tortilla Wraps and fill each with about 1 cup of your warm grains salad. Finally, roll them up and enjoy!

Breakfast Pizzas

Using Gluten Free Original Tortilla Wraps as your pizza crust base, these breakfast pizzas are great for a shareable brunch dish or a filling individual breakfast plate for one. They’re high in protein and deliciousness, and you get pizza without the hassle of finding gluten free crust!

To make: 

  1. Preheat a cookie sheet in the oven at 400 degrees. 
  2. Load your tortilla crusts with herbed cream cheese, crumbled chicken sausage, scrambled egg whites, and green onions. 
  3. Top with as much Monterey jack as you’d like, and pop them in the oven for 12-15 minutes until your crust is crispy and the cheese is melted! 
  4. When they’re ready, pull your pizzas out of the oven and sprinkle with cilantro for a dash of extra flavor.

Low Carb

Low Carb Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Egg Wraps 

These wraps pair smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with baby spinach and chives in a rich but low carb breakfast that’s easy to take on the go!

To make: 

  1. Start with your eggs, and beat them with a dash of heavy cream before scrambling for a rich, fluffy result. 
  2. While they cook, warm your Carb Balance Soft Taco Whole Wheat Tortillas and load them with baby spinach. 
  3. Layer two slices of smoked salmon onto the bed of spinach on each wrap.
  4. Finally, divide the scrambled eggs between the tortillas and top with chives.

Spinach Scramble Wraps

To make:

  2. Fill each tortilla with egg, chopped baby spinach, sliced cherry tomatoes, feta, and sliced green onion. 
  3. Wrap tightly in the papers for burritos, or fold and plate for breakfast tacos.

Low Calorie

Spinach and Feta Egg White Wraps 

Egg whites, onion, and roasted red bell pepper come together to make this flavorful breakfast burrito base - and with their namesake spinach and feta thrown in, they’re full of vitamins C and A, iron, calcium, and more!

To make: 

  1. Sauté the onion, then add egg whites, salt, pepper, and garlic, and finally stir in the roasted red bell pepper. 
  2. Load each Soft Taco Whole Wheat Tortilla with a hearty serving of the egg and pepper mixture and top with spinach and feta. 
  3. Roll into a burrito and enjoy immediately or freeze for the week!
