Better For You Pork Tacos and Recipes

April 15, 2021

There are many ways to cook and season pork for your favorite Mexican-style dishes. Why stop there? The flavors in the recipes below range from Korean Bugogo to Vietnamese Bahn Mi to Southern Barbeque. They include pork that is slow-cooked, grilled, skillet-cooked, or roasted.

Slow-Cooker and Instant Pot Pork Dishes

For these Sweet and Spicy Pork Tacos, the pork shoulder meat is seared and then cooked in a slow cooker with tamari sauce, orange juice, chili-garlic pepper sauce, ginger, five-spice powder, and beef stock. As the name implies, these flavors combine for a flavor that is both sweet and spicy. The tacos are then topped with a fresh Asian slaw.

Instant Pot Pork Belly Tacos are made by pressure cooking the taco seasoned pork belly with beef broth and white wine and then grilling it in a cast iron pan with barbeque sauce.  Add your favorite toppings.

Instant Pot Pork Carnitas are made by seasoning pork shoulder in a dry rub of garlic salt, chili powder, dried oregano, dried basil, cumin, ground coriander, brown sugar and sweet paprika. Then cook the meat in the instant pot with lime and orange and lime juice as well as the rinds. After shredding the cooked meat, roast 3-5 minutes under the broiler to crisp it up. Pickle onions by cooking in vinegar, lime juice, sugar, chili flakes and salt. Add meat, pickled onions, avocado and cilantro to your warmed tortillas.
