Cooking with Kids: 5 Dessert Taco Recipes for the Family

May 10, 2021

Kids love dessert (and let’s face it, we all do!), so using dessert taco recipes as a way to teach cooking skills and spend time together is an easy idea that you can begin to implement with your family. We strive to create products that are not only delicious, but also create opportunities for your family to enjoy food together. We’ve rounded up five great dessert taco recipes that your kids will love to help prepare any day of the week!

Apple Pie Tacos

These mini apple pies are a perfect dessert taco for kids to test their baking skills. Using prepared apple pie filling allows you to spend more time on the tortillas and cinnamon-sugar mixture so that you don’t have to worry about keeping an eye on too many things at once (a great way to introduce kids to cooking!). To make the taco “shells”, melt butter in a skillet and then lightly toast our Street Tacos Flour Tortillas on each side; older kids can help with this step and learn about safety tips when working with hot butter on the stove. After toasted, have your younger kids help position the tortillas over the back of muffin tins to shape, then transfer to the cup side for filling. Sprinkle your cinnamon-sugar on top and enjoy! These dessert tacos make a great after-school or party treat.

Cinnamon Pear Crepes

What are crepes if not just fancy tacos? Sell these delicious desserts to your kids by letting them know that you’re all going to make some syrup-soaked pear tacos – they’ll be ready to help in no time! Start by heating butter in a skillet and then stirring in sugar until a syrup forms; this is a great task for older kids who are confident around the stove. Once the mix is a syrup, place sliced pears in to coat each side for a minute or two. Once cooked, the younger kids can gently coat the pear slices with cinnamon and then add on top of our warmed Organic Flour Tortillas that they’ve covered with cream cheese. Fold over into a taco, add some whipped cream, and enjoy!

Berry Cream Cheese Tacos

Are you looking for a clever way to serve a healthier dessert to your kids? These berry cream cheese tacos are not only sweet and delicious, but since they have cream cheese and fruit, they’re a nutritious alternative to a sugar-packed treat! Start by having your kids slice strawberries (help if necessary!) and wash the blueberries and raspberries. Then spread cream cheese and raspberry jam on a perfectly-sized Street Tacos Flour Tortilla. Carefully top with the sliced strawberries and a small handful of blueberries and raspberries. Top with dollops of whipped cream!

Peanut Butter, Banana, and Honey Street Tacos

These sweet tacos are perfect to make alongside your kids in the kitchen – there are steps that even the youngest chefs can accomplish independently! Using our super soft Street Tacos Flour Tortillas means that the resulting dessert will be the perfect size for little hands and mouths. Have your kids spread peanut butter on a tortilla, then top with banana slices. Drizzle some honey over everything, and then sprinkle on raisins and granola. For an extra special treat, add some mini chocolate chips to the top of it all!

Peanut Butter and Strawberry Wraps

For kids who aren’t as specific with the shape of their taco, this dessert “taco” recipe is a great option. The benefit to using our Multigrain Wraps instead of smaller soft taco tortillas is that your bigger kids will actually fill up on this sneakily-healthy dessert; kids will feel on top of the world if you let them assemble such a big dessert on their own! Have them spread equal parts crunchy peanut butter and cream cheese over the wrap, then carefully place about 20 strawberry slices on top, leaving a border on one edge for rolling later. When they’ve tightly rolled it up, cut it in half and serve! Some chocolate sauce on the side for dipping is a great treat, too.

Not only are these dessert tacos a sweet way to enjoy some delicious ingredients, they’re easy enough for your kids to help make, too!
