These simple food swaps are an easy way to kick off the new year! Healthier cooking doesn’t mean sacrificing taste. Making small yet simple changes can have a big impact on your overall well-being. Try these food swaps the next time you’re looking for delicious recipes!

Eat Whole-Grains Instead of Refined

Whole-grains are packed with important vitamins and nutrients and are delicious! Check out our full line of whole wheat tortillas that pair perfectly with our Turkey and Apple Wrap. Substituting quinoa for rice is another great whole-grain option. Our Greek Quinoa and Sweet Potato Burrito recipe gets extra health points for the sweet potato that’s also rich in nutrients.

Fish on Fridays

Our Fish Taco with Avocado Crema and Grilled Salmon Wrap recipes will help you make Fish on Fridays a new routine. Low-fat and rich in vitamins and minerals (including Omega-3s, which help protect against heart disease), fish can be a delicious substitute when you’re in the mood for something a little lighter!

Try Tofu Instead of Meat

Tofu is a healthier protein option rich in calcium and essential amino acids. You may be surprised at how tasty tofu can be when marinated and seasoned like in our Thai Tofu Tacos!

Try Low-Carb Substitutes

Not ready to give up carbs altogether? Mission’s selection of low-carb tortillas makes it easy to enjoy your favorite tortilla-based recipes without losing any of the flavor! Try them with our Baja Chicken Salad Wrap or Spinach Scramble Wrap.

More Veggies, Please!

It can be challenging to eat the recommended amount of vegetables each day, so try adding a few veggies like spinach, puréed cauliflower, or broccoli into your casseroles. You can pick one night a week to be meat-free and challenge yourself to try new vegetables - eggplant and portobello mushrooms make particularly good meat substitutes! Check out our Mediterranean Grilled Vegetable Tacos, Grilled Portobello Mushroom Wraps, and Easy Chickpea Shawarma Wraps for an easy way to get those veggies in.

Snack Healthier

Try swapping out a sweet afternoon snack for a piece of fruit or a more nutritious and filling option. Our Peanut Butter and Granola Tortilla is not only packed with goodness, but the kids will love it, too! Or, treat yourself to our Fruit Skewers with Nutella Roll-Ups

Avocado to the Rescue

Avocados have almost 20 essential vitamins and minerals, plus the right kind of fat your body needs. Sliced avocados, guacamole, or avocado crema make a delicious topping for tons of our recipes! Try our Creamy Chicken Salad, which uses avocados and yogurt instead of mayonnaise. You can also substitute avocado oil for butter for healthier cooking.

Did You Say Yogurt?

We know - sour cream is so yummy, but you may be surprised at how well Greek yogurt does as a lower-fat substitute. Try it out in this Chipotle Yogurt Sauce (you can substitute ground turkey for beef to make it healthier) or with our Greek Lamb and Feta Tacos.

Time to Try Gluten-Free?

If you have gluten sensitivities or have been diagnosed with celiac disease, our gluten-free tortillas are a great way to continue enjoying the wraps, tacos, and burritos you love. No need to miss out on pizza, either!

Which of these simple swaps will you try out in the new year? Remember that even the smallest of changes can start building healthy eating habits. Tried one of our recipes, and loved it? Let us know by leaving a review!
