Ready to fold a burrito like a pro? Let's look at each of those steps in more detail.

Step 1: Choose Your Burrito Style

A burrito is just a burrito you may think, but for many people the difference between a burrito and a wrap is important. Burritos are typically eaten whole so that the delicious juices can trickle down to the bottom for a perfect last bite. Wraps, on the other hand, are often cut in half to eat (like you would with a sandwich) and don’t have as much sauce or juice. Folding a burrito versus a wrap isn’t much different, but the slight alterations make it easier to cut a wrap – so follow along below for the place to swap steps!

Step 2: Pick the Right Tortilla

Choosing the right tortilla for folding is important. Small tortillas, like our Street Tacos Flour Tortillas won’t have enough room to hold much filling in addition to all of the folds. Corn tortillas are delicious, but because they’re more delicate, they tend to break and crumble when folded. It’s best to use large, flour tortillas or wraps that are sturdy enough to hold plenty of delicious filling inside.

Step 3: Warm Things Up

Folding a burrito is much easier when the tortilla is room temperature or slightly warmed; cold tortillas tend to crack and break more easily. To warm a tortilla, either toast it in a skillet for 15-30 seconds on each side or place in the microwave wrapped in a damp paper towel for about 20 seconds. You’ll want to immediately fill and fold your burrito after it’s warm, so be prepared with your ingredients ahead of time!

Step 4: Place Filling Evenly

One of the most important steps to folding a burrito is filling it. When you’re making something delicious like a Red Pepper and Spinach Scramble for breakfast or a Baked Avocado Chicken Burrito for a warm dinner on a cold night, you want to pack each serving full of as much flavor as possible – but resist! Overfilling a burrito will make it hard to fold and end with half of your meal on the floor. When filling a burrito, place the ingredients evenly across the bottom third of the tortilla, making sure to leave about an inch of empty space on the sides.

Step 5: Fold in the Sides & Bottom

Once your tortilla is topped with a delicious filling, it’s time to fold! Grasping both sides of the tortilla at the same time, fold them over towards the middle so that they cover most of the filling. The sides don’t have to meet, but they do need to start forming the pocket that will keep all of your flavorful ingredients tucked safely inside.

After the sides are folded in, use your index fingers to keep them in place while your thumbs grab the bottom of the tortilla and fold it up to the middle, covering the filling and the portions of the side tortilla that you folded earlier. If you’re making a wrap style burrito, here is where you’d switch the steps – fold the bottom up first, then fold in the sides afterwards.

Step 6: Roll and Tuck!

Now for the hardest part – roll and tuck. You’ve created a pocket to hold all of your filling, but if you don’t keep the burrito tight as you finish rolling, everything will fall out. Use your index fingers to keep tucking the filling in tightly as you finish rolling up towards the top of the tortilla. End with the seam down to keep everything in place on the plate! Cut in half if you’re serving as a wrap.

Step 7: Enjoy!

Great job! You now know how to fold a burrito like a pro. After folding the perfect burrito, it’s time to enjoy it! With your expert burrito folding skills, you can keep even the trickiest fillings in place throughout the meal so that you can enjoy every last bite.
